A lot of us forget to exercise. It’s not that we intend to, it’s just that other things get in the way. Like chocolate.
We’ve all been there: signed up to the really expensive gym, bought a fitness tracker bracelet (who knew exercise meant accessorising?) and picked up some on-trend running shoes. It’s doing something with them as the nights draw in that’s the tricky bit.
Yes, with Christmas (and Winter) around the corner, it can be tempting to wait until the New Year before getting fit. But why wait? With so many new fitness programmes available, there is something for everyone, right now. We want to look our best for Christmas parties after all!
What’s more, it can take up to a month for you to get into the habit of exercising so best to start now if you want to keep to your New Year’s resolution past January…
We’ve found three autumn fitness goals which are totally achievable to help you get started. One of them even has ‘couch’ in the title. Although sadly, it doesn’t allow you to actually sit on the couch.
1. Go from the Couch to 5K
Does your definition of exercise comprise of walking from the car to the office each morning? Is your favourite pastime vegging out on the sofa with a cuppa and a rom-com?
Made specifically for people who have little or no experience with exercise, the Couch to 5K App eases you into running by taking you right back to basics. Pop in your headphones and the app will tell you when to start, stop, run and walk – all you need to do is listen and obey. The only downside is that there’s no one to check you’re running when you should be!
2. Cycle to work
A lot of us have bikes however most end up in the garage after just a few uses, never to see the light of day again. The intention is there to get them back out but it never happens.
By cycling to work every day, you effectively have a gym on wheels with the addition of a great view (depending on your commute)! Tone up your thighs, beat the traffic and save yourself a lot of money on petrol or public transport – what have you got to lose?
3. Do a marathon. A Zumba marathon!

Love a good party? Swap your heels for trainers and head to your local Zumba class where you can literally dance the calories away to upbeat songs.
Tried and tested by 15 million people worldwide Zumba will teach you a mix of high and low intensity moves that will make you the life and the soul of the party when you try them out on the weekend.
A Zumba marathon is an extra-long Zumba session usually between 3 and 6 hours, and often done in aid of charity so you can raise money at the same time. Double feel good points!
Who knew fitness could be so enjoyable?
