Cherry Good teamed up with Sabina, author of lifestyle and parenting blog 'Mummy Matters,' to find out her life hacks for Autumn ...
I have no idea where this whole concept of ‘life hacks’ came from but everywhere you look these days there’s a ‘life hack’ for something. So what is a life hack?
Noun: life hack
1. A strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one's time and daily activities in a more efficient way.
"This useful website offers good life hacks for better use of your time and your technology."
We all find our own ways of doing things, ways to save time and perhaps cut a corner here or there. However once you have little people in the household, I don’t know about you but I find that time always seems to be in short supply. I used to be on time or early for everything but these days my beans ask me most days “are we late Mummy?” because more often than not, yes we are! It’s not intentional, it’s just circumstantial but I'm working on it!
With Autumn upon us I thought I would share with you some of my Autumn life hacks which will not only save you time but money too!
Safety on slippery floors in the home
Since we had the new floor tiles laid in the kitchen we have discovered the perils of super shiny floors. When the weather was warm and we walked around with bare feet, the floor didn't pose a problem but now the days are getting cooler we have been slipping and sliding around. Beanie Boy (our accident magnet) has fallen over countless times and I was seriously worried that we had made a mistake in our choice of flooring.
Hubby and I both said that we needed to buy the Beans 'grippy' socks and it was whilst searching online for suppliers that I found a great little tip, to paint puffy fabric paint onto the soles of socks. Not only is this a great tip for safety, it's one the Beans can do themselves so it will be a fun craft to do together and it will make them more excited about wearing their new socks! Guess what we will be doing this weekend?!
Love your lint roller
For the longest time I’ve had a lint roller sitting in my wardrobe doing absolutely nothing. We haven't got pets so we have never had to worry about getting animal hairs on our clothing and in general we rarely wear clothing which isn't suitable for the activity. Then I discovered the benefits of a lint roller for cleaning!
It's amazing what tips you can find on Pinterest. I have since used a number of lint rollers to clean around the home on lightshades, curtains and window blinds. Then, when crafting with the Beans one day, Jelly Bean managed to tip over a pot of seed beads. Being a keen crafter I wasn't happy to hoover them up and loose them so instead I used the lint roller to rescue them. All I needed to do was gently brush them from the lint roller back into the jar, the crafting clear-up possibilities with a lint roller are endless.
Mix up your Menu
This Summer I have LOVED eating salads but with cooler days approaching I'm definitely starting to crave more comforting foods. After a busy day of household chores, entertaining Jelly Bean and stressful teatimes with the Beans the last thing I feel like doing is getting my head around what to cook for Hubby and I.
Since then, a friend recommended Supercook.com to me; if you know what recipe you are looking for you can search for it or you can select items from your kitchen cupboard and see what recipes you have available to you. Not only does this save you money, it also saves you from needing to head out to the shops to buy something when you already have everything you need in your cupboard.
I don't know about you but I find it really difficult to get out of bed once the dark mornings start coming back. The temptation to stay in a cosy warm bed when it's still dark outside is sometimes just a little too much and I often end up running out of time for breakfast.
Rather than keep grabbing something unhealthy because it's quick and easy I looked to the internet once more for suggestions and found this amazing post on healthy ‘Make Ahead Breakfasts’. Even my Beans will eat some of these and they’re great to prepare ahead of an early start to give us a fighting chance of getting out of the door on time.
Do you have a favourite 'make ahead breakfast' that I haven't discovered already? It's always nice to find extras.
